The North York Moors National Park and High Woods Farm share the same woodlands, heaths, and wildlife! Guests can take advantage of the many walks available from our doorstep to meander and explore the surrounding environs.
Alternatively, a leisurely walk through our own woods and hillsides brings you to other local places of interest such as
Byland Abbey (2 miles from High Woods Farm) or Ampleforth Abbey whilst a rather longer walk leads to Rievaulx Abbey (2 miles north of Helmesley).

Dalby Forest - Visitors Centre & Information
Acres of forest walks a short drive away (or travel via the frequent Moorland Bus that runs regulalry during the summer season to all places of interest within the area) ideal for walkers, bicycles & riders alike whilst the "Back In Time Carriage Rides" situated by the Dalby Forest Visitor Centre offers horse-drawn rides through the forest, weather permitting.
White Horse, Kilburn
The White Horse is a huge horse sculpture cut into the hillside of Sutton Bank - visible for many miles around with easy walks up to the horse itself. The village of Kilburn is also famous for its carver and carpenter - "The Mouseman of Kilburn".
The mouse "signature" adorns all carvings from "The Mouseman of Kilburn".
North Yorkshire Steam Train
The railway presents an opportunity to journey from Pickering to Grosmont through stunning moorland scenery, stopping and alighting at any point along the way or returning after a brief rest and relax in Grosmont. It’s also the perfect starting point for a day out, whether you’re travelling between the rugged Yorkshire villages, hiking on the wind swept moors or heading out to the coast.
